20th century: The Hydroelectric Complex of Guerlédan

Built between 1923 and 1930 on the Blavet river and the Nantes to Brest canal, between Saint Aignan (Morbihan) to the south and Mûr de Bretagne (Côtes d'Armor) to the north, this dam of Guerlédan

of the weight-concrete type, due to the rocky relief on which it can hang, is a construction of 45 meters height and a length of 208 meters. It creates a reservoir of water, the artificial lake of Guerlédan, with an area of 304 hectares and a total volume of 53 million m3 of water.

Immediately downstream of the dam of Guerlédan, a smaller lake, compensation pool, is created by the dam Saint Aignan which allows to store and regulate the return to the Blavet downstream of the water delivered by the factory Of Guerlédan.

The 4 generating units of the Guerlédan plant and the Saint Aignan plant, forming the Guerlédan-Saint Aignan hydroelectric complex, produce 20 GWh / year , about the needs of a  town like Pontivy (15,000 inhabitants).
